Ride with the Peloton - Craig's July Message
Posted: July 16, 2009
What a week! I just completed a whirlwind tour of Europe with our VP and General Manager, Dr. William Amzallag. We focused on developing markets, staring on Sunday in Paris and finishing over the weekend in Amsterdam. What a fantastic opportunity it was to meet so many of the passionate distributors here in Europe. We really sensed a turning point among the European markets. We can feel the energy building towards AgelWorld09. AgelWorld09 this year will be a tremendous boost to anyone able to attend.
Throughout the week I’ve stolen a few minutes here and there to peek in on progress with the Tour De France. If you’ll allow me, I’d like to share one more analogy between the most amazing bike race in the world and the most amazing business opportunity in the world, Agel.
In cycling, a “peloton” is a large group of tightly packed cyclists that travel together. Cyclists who ride with the group can save up to 40 percent in energy exertion over a cyclist who ventures out on his or her own.
Cyclists also ride in a straight-line formation behind one another called a “pace-line.” When traveling in a pace line cyclists take turns in the lead position. This requires more effort and burns more energy for the person in the lead, but can help reserve the energy of his teammates leaving them more energy for a last minute race to the end.
Both strategies use a form of cooperation called, “Drafting”. To be effective drafting, a cyclist needs to be as close as possible to the bicycle in front of him. Professional cyclists can get within inches of the cyclist in front of them—the shorter the distance, the larger the decrease in wind resistance.
Similar to the cyclists, each of you, are traveling with a team. That team will accomplish more success by working together in a tightly packed group, than if you try to go it alone. When you are first starting your business, it is crucial you attend weekly meetings, conference calls and participate in group goal setting. Working closely with the leaders in your area and ‘traveling with the group’ will increase your opportunities for success and put you on the road to leadership!
As your team builds in numbers you may travel in a ‘pace’ line where one person takes the lead. Whether in the lead or the back of the pack, you are still part of a team that requires your effort and drive.
If you are a leader, you need to support the people behind you. Give them direction, present business building opportunities and let them know you are not going to leave them behind.
If you are following a great leader, I suggest you support everything they do. Let them know YOU are there and ready to go! Your support and encouragement from behind is necessary for them to keep up the pace!
Just as the cyclists travel within inches of the person ahead of them, you should do the same. The closer you are to your sponsor, the more you will learn. Attend their meetings. Participate in phone calls. Work with them whenever you can. This form of “drafting” and working together will bring success not only to individuals but will increase the overall team’s success.
The Agel opportunity is not meant to be a solo journey. Work closely with your team. Set a good pace to reach your goals and no matter what position you hold in your business show support to those around you.
Enjoying the ride with each of you!
